KOR Institute of Music — Course
Understand music from the inside out
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Music Theory & Composition at KOR Institute bridges the gap between musical instinct and intellectual understanding. Students who study theory read, write, and think about music with far greater depth — and those who study composition learn to channel that understanding into original works that carry their personal artistic voice.

CURRICULUM
From the very basics of the staff and clefs to advanced harmonic notation, polyphonic reading, and score study — develop fluency in the universal language that connects all musicians.
Learn the craft of original music creation: melody writing, chord progression design, lyric construction, song structure, orchestration basics, and the use of technology in the modern composer workflow.
Take existing music and transform it — or arrange your own compositions for different instrumentations. Study voice leading, instrumental ranges, scoring techniques, and the art of arrangement for small and large ensembles.
Develop your musical ear to identify chords, intervals, melodic dictation, and harmonic progressions by ear. A trained ear is the single most valuable tool any musician can possess — and it can be systematically developed.
PROGRAM OUTCOME
Theory and composition students leave with a thorough understanding of how music works, the ability to write and arrange original material, and a portfolio of compositions demonstrating their growth.
